Stevia is a zero calorie, natural sweetener obtained from the leaf of the stevia plant. A member of the sunflower family, the stevia plant is native to Paraguay, and has been traditionally used for hundreds of years as a sweetener. Around 300 times sweeter than sugar, only a small amount is needed to add sweetness.

Well Naturally No Sugar Added Milk Chocolate products are not vegan.

All Well Naturally No Sugar Added chocolates are manufactured in the same facility as milk products. Therefore, we must declare that all Well Naturally No Sugar Added Dark Chocolate products may contain traces of milk.

We do not actively promote our dark chocolate products as Vegan for this reason, however we recognise that many following a vegan or vegetarian diet will consume products which may contain traces of dairy or animal products. This considered, we leave the decision to the individual based on their dietary needs.

Well Naturally No Sugar Added Chocolates do not contain added sugar, making them a healthier alternative to regular chocolate.

As everyone’s dietary needs are different depending on their health, age, activity levels etc; we recommend consulting with your health professional for individual dietary advice.

Well Naturally No Sugar Added Dark Chocolate products contain less than 1g of sugar per 100g.

Well Naturally No Sugar Added Milk Chocolate products contain between 8g and 12g of sugar per 100g (depending on the product). You can view flavour specific nutrition information on our product pages.

Well Naturally products do not contain any added sugars; added sugars are sugars such as sucrose (cane sugar/table sugar), brown sugar, molasses, glucose syrup, icing sugar, and fruit sugar syrups.

Sugar naturally occurs in many food products including the cocoa that forms the basis of Well Naturally chocolate, and the naturally occurring milk sugars (lactose) in milk solids which make our milk chocolate products delectably smooth and creamy.

Sugars are a type of carbohydrate and are often referred to as ‘simple’ or ‘refined’ carbohydrates. While sugars naturally occur in fruit, vegetables, dairy products and many other foods, most of the sugar which we consume comes in the form of added sugars – those which have been added to food or drinks to make products such as soft drinks, cakes, biscuits and confectionery.

The World Health Organisation recommends we consume a maximum of 6 teaspoons of sugar per day.

Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend that we limit the intake of foods containing added sugar such as confectionary, sugar-sweetened soft drinks and cordials, fruit drinks, vitamin waters, energy and sports drinks.

On packaged foods, look out for the Nutrition Information Panel on the packaging. The grams of sugar per 100g will be listed in the Nutrition Information Panel along with grams of sugars per serving of the food. When comparing one product to another, it is best to use the per 100g value, as serving sizes will differ across products and brands.

You can also identify sugar from the ingredients list of packaged foods.

Stevia is the common name given to a natural plant-based sweetener extracted from the stevia plant. Steviol glycosides (the sweet component of the stevia leaf) are extracted from the dried stevia leaves. The end product is a fine white powder which is about 300 times as sweet as cane sugar, so we only use a very small amount in Well Naturally chocolate. Stevia has been used as a natural sweetener in food products for many years.

Unlike traditional chocolate, Well Naturally No Sugar Added Chocolate does not contain any added sugar. To impart that delicious sweet taste, we use the natural sweetener stevia.

As well as sweetness, sugar provides structure and texture to chocolate. To create a deliciously smooth, chocolate texture, we use:

Polydextrose – a type of fibre derived from corn
Erythritol – a sugar substitute which belongs to a family of ingredients called sugar alcohols (or polyols)

To bring out the rich cocoa notes in our chocolate, we use a hint of flavour. All flavours used in Well Naturally No Sugar Added Chocolate are natural.
